New physical activity guidelines were developed by the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP), Canada's research body on fitness and health. They were developed over the course of four years of research and are based on the latest evidence from 21 international studies on the impact of activity on health. The new minimum activity levels recommended in the guidelines have stirred up controversy. Following on the heels of Statistics Canada studies that report only 15% of Canadian adults met the 150-minute per week exercise target, health experts are concerned that the CSEP guidelines are set too low. Click here for pdf versions of the CSEP guidelines - there are 4 one-page documents - one each for the following age groups: - Children 5-11 years
- Youth 12-17 years
- Adults 18-64
- Older Adults 65+
